Skill Sets Required to Work in BFSI Sector

According to inputs received from NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation), the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector of India is going to announce 1.62 million jobs to skilled and semi-skilled job seekers by the year 2021. BFSI sector will be needing skilled employees in several departments such as retail banking, corporate banking, core finance, treasury, and human resources to name a few.  This is the appropriate time to consider a great career in the BFSI sector and to avail the right opportunity, one must be equipped with the following skills.

Excellent communication skills: Managing internal and external communication is the prerequisite for any banking personnel. Irrespective of the department you work in the banking sector, you need strong communication (written and verbal) to interact with customers and moreover, you need to interact with various internal and external teams to follow the banking processes and policies.

Trust and reliability: Strong work ethics, professional commitment, integrity & compliance in taking decisions are essentially required by banking personnel. Dealing with public money demands a high level of trust and reliability from banking professionals.

Sound domain knowledge: Financial sector is too vast to understand and one must go for specialization within this broader domain, like commercial banking, trade finance, assets management, retail banking, credit appraisal, etc. Your carrier will be built around the same and gradually you can add other skills around it.

Analytical Power: Being in the financial sector, apart from strong domain knowledge, it is crucial that finance professionals are sound in analyzing data and identifying trends and patterns to make better decisions.

Relationship management: No matter what you do, client management skill is really very critical and important for banking professionals, it includes both soft skill and hard skills to handle general client queries to complaints from the customers.

IT Skills: The usage of technical skills is increasing day by day in the banking sector, the incumbents must be equipped with latest digital skills and must be ready to accept all the challenges which may help them grow professionally.
