The word Hostel is both terrifying and exciting in itself. But for me it was exciting I was highly fascinated because for me it was living like a free bird, living life on my own terms and away from restrictions of family. After my graduation when I set out with my parents for my first hostel life. I remember the date very well 10th December 2020 because it was my Independence Day-from home and COVID effect. It was my first step towards freedom because like all girls of my age I needed that so-called space away from family constant scrutiny.
My college Jaipuria Institute of Management, Ghaziabad, beautiful lush green campus on the roadside with busy roads, malls, restaurants, parks, and a small tea shop just outside the gate. Every evening I and my friends go there to enjoy ourselves. Our hostel is within the campus premises within the same campus. I was allotted room number 219 and on the first day was instructed to collect essentials from the in-house store. Once I reached my designated room, I found mess was on the ground floor and in seniors on 1st floor and fresher on 2nd floor. After the unpacking was done my parents left from there, repeating few cautionary advises. It was already evening and we were asked to go to canteen where snacked were served. I made new friends over tea and snacks and later we all gathered in one room to chat. We introduced ourselves and chatted endlessly throughout the evening and playing and dancing in TV room and corridor. It was all very exciting for us and we were planning for upcoming exciting next two years.
There are certain rules in hostel- there was fixed time defined for every activity and we had to abide by times strictly. Dinner timing was from 8 pm and we all gathered in the big dining hall once more. Dinner was special and delicious vegetarian food with chena. We were delighted the prospect of such delicious food every day.
The real scene began after dinner. We all went out in the campus premises for a walk shouting, running, chatting and enjoying, coming back we again sat all together planning for our first day in college and induction. Finally, we went to our rooms as it was quite late and slept with lot of dreams and excitement.
