Empowering Innovation – Insights from the MIC Programmes & Schemes Session with Dr. Abhay Jere

Held on October 23, 2024, this session aimed at familiarizing students and faculty members with the various initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC). These initiatives provide a platform for students to explore innovation, secure funding, and contribute to a startup-driven India.

  • Introduction to MIC & Its Mission: Dr. Jere elaborated on MIC's vision of nurturing a culture of innovation across educational institutions. The session was live-streamed on YouTube, ensuring accessibility for a wider audience beyond the 50 students and 2 faculty members present on campus.
  • Key MIC Initiatives & Schemes: Students gained valuable insights into government-backed programs designed to support innovation and entrepreneurship:
    • Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC): Encouraging institutions to establish a structured framework for innovation-driven activities.
    • Smart India Hackathon: Providing students with a platform to solve real-world industry problems with innovative solutions.
    • National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP): Enabling students and faculty to actively engage in startup ecosystems.
    • Funding & Grants: Government-supported schemes to provide financial aid for student-led projects and startup ventures.
  • Role of Institutions in Fostering Innovation: Dr. Jere emphasized the critical role educational institutions play in driving research, innovation, and startup incubation. Colleges and universities are expected to integrate MIC programs into their academic curriculum to prepare students for entrepreneurial success.
  • Industry Collaboration & Networking: A major takeaway from the session was the importance of networking and collaboration with industries, research organizations, and mentors. Building strong partnerships can open doors for funding, internships, and real-world learning opportunities.
