On 03 October 2024, the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indirapuram, hosted an engaging event titled "Beyond the Box: A Design Thinking Event". Held at the JIM auditorium from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., the event aimed to foster creative problem-solving, innovative thinking, and teamwork among participants.
The challenge for the day: construct a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing structure using only newspapers, tape, glue sticks, and scissors. This creative exercise invited participants to push their boundaries, combining design thinking principles with practical application.
Event Objectives:
The event was carefully crafted to achieve the following key objectives:
- Fostering Creative Thinking: Teams were encouraged to think outside the box and utilize design thinking principles to create their models.
- Promoting Teamwork: Collaboration was essential for success, with participants pooling their skills and ideas to create the best structure.
- Developing Resource Management Skills: With a limited selection of materials, teams had to think strategically and maximize the potential of each resource.
- Emphasizing Aesthetics in Design: The event underlined the importance of visual appeal, encouraging participants to consider both functionality and aesthetics in their creations.
- Providing Hands-On Learning Experiences: By directly engaging in the design and building process, participants gained practical, real-world insights into engineering and design principles.
- Creating an Engaging Environment: The event aimed to be fun, collaborative, and filled with enthusiasm, helping participants connect with one another.
The Challenge and Competition:
Eleven dynamic teams, each consisting of 10 members, participated in the competition. Their goal was to build a structure capable of supporting the weight of several books. Teams were judged not only on the sturdiness of their creations but also on their visual appeal, reinforcing the idea that great design is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
The event was packed with energy, innovation, and teamwork. Participants demonstrated remarkable creativity in working with limited resources and presented unique models that impressed both the audience and judges.
Results and Recognition:
After thorough evaluation, the team “Elite Squad” emerged victorious. Their structure stood out for its solid base and elegant design, showcasing an impressive balance of creativity and engineering. The team comprised the following members: Anant Pradeep Pandey, Shubh Dubey, Karan Singh Basera, Jasmeet Singh, Minu Roy, Aditya Narayan, Nitish Gautam, Sana Rehmani, and Prateek Ojha.
