Report – Team Building Activity – The Perfect Square 7th September 2022, 2- 3 pm

Team Members: Ms. Guneet Kaur, Dr Divya Pant

Judge of the activity: Dr. Devi Archana

A very interesting team-building activity was conducted with the new MBA Batch of 2022-24 in the JIM ground area. The name of the activity was “The Perfect Square” in which the class was divided into five groups of ten students each. One leader was appointed who had to direct the team-members. All the other people in the team were blind-folded and asked to hold a rope in a circle, facing inwards. As soon as the activity started, they had to keep the rope down and move a few steps back. Then the leader had to guide them to pick up the rope and try to create a square. The shape of the square was expected to be equal in sides and was to be achieved by listening to the directions of the leader.

The activity propagated the role of a leader and how he directed his followers to respond to the correct steps to be taken to achieve the goal of this activity. The outcomes and learnings of this were to make students realize the role performed by a leader and how to communicate effectively and clearly with his followers. A leader has to empathize and work together with his team-mates to achieve their goals collectively. This activity also emphasized the impact of team bonding and interaction within the team.

Students participated actively in this and worked towards listening to their leader and following proper instructions. They were happy to see that together they are able to complete their work in much less time as compared to individually. There was no winner as such, but the lacunas of the first group were overcome by the subsequent ones. All the teams fully engaged in the activity with full zeal and vigor. Post the activity, students were asked to share their experience and Dr Devi gave an analysis on the key learning points to the students.
