Online Classes –A New Experience of lockdown

No one imagined that the academic year for students would have ended this way. Online learning at an institute is the acceptable way and with own concerns and challenges, it is something we expect to see in the near future.
When the campus was closed, the experience was straight forward, students being able to access sessions via a link sent to our emails.  The majority of the google meet classes were recorded and put on Moodle so we could re-watch if anything was missed during the live class. This way, students had an option to listen whenever they want and making the experience a lot easier.
As I was the MBA first sem student at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Ghaziabad so, classes were conducted as per government orders. Naturally, new experience comes with its own challenges and adjustments. The main challenge for me was maintaining the same levels of discipline for my studies at home. It is fairly easy to get distracted while being stuck at home with the entire family. There were moments during this period where motivation and morale was low at times. This is particularly due to the devastating effects of the virus has had on many thousands of people.
Another thing which I was determined for was to ensure that regular exercise and physical activity became a part of my routine. So, I joined online yoga classes as well, it was again a new learning experience. Earlier smartphones and laptops which were not allowed in classes and was meant for restricted usage at home as well, but now it became the backbone of education throughout the year as COVID-19 pandemic promoted a classroom teaching to the online classes, including Google meet and zoom etc. but the other side of the story was that students missed going to colleges and campus interactions.  Even the education system has been overhauled and it seems that online learning or virtual learning has become the new normal.
Overall, my experience during lockdown and with online learning provided by Jaipuria Institute of Management, Ghaziabad has been positive. The support from the institute has allowed it to be as smooth as possible with students being kept up to date at every stage. In the near future, online learning could be an option of institute curriculum and the past few months have proved that it has the capacity to be successful for students and institutions.
