The Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indirapuram, successfully hosted Mercato 2025, its annual inter-institute cultural and creative fest, on 20 December 2025. Among the many engaging events, the Nukkad Natak Competition emerged as a powerful platform for social expression, creative storytelling, and thought-provoking theatre.
The Nukkad Natak Competition went beyond being a talent showcase. It became a medium through which students voiced social concerns, challenged prevailing mindsets, and inspired reflection through impactful street theatre performances. The event celebrated creativity, teamwork, and the ability of theatre to communicate strong messages in a simple yet compelling manner.
The primary objective of the competition was to provide a platform for emerging dramatists to demonstrate their storytelling and theatrical skills. Participants explored diverse narratives, presenting them from unique perspectives that reflected creativity, originality, and a strong connection with real-world issues. Each performance showcased the teams’ ability to engage audiences emotionally while provoking meaningful thought.
The themes covered during the competition reflected pressing societal concerns and contemporary realities. These included gender inequality, women empowerment, corruption, environmental issues, child labor, discrimination, entrepreneurship development, healthcare and sanitation, education and literacy, mental health awareness, family planning, fire safety, human trafficking, and LGBTQ rights. Through expressive performances, participants highlighted the role of theatre as a catalyst for awareness and social change.
A total of seven teams participated in the competition, demonstrating exceptional coordination, commitment, and team spirit. The performances were evaluated on parameters such as content relevance, storytelling, audience engagement, clarity of message, and overall impact. The judging process ensured a fair and insightful assessment of each team’s effort.
The event was judged by Mr. Dev Malik, Theatre Director from DTU, whose expertise and experience enriched the evaluation process. After careful deliberation, the winners were announced. Technia Institute secured the First Prize with a cash award of ₹5100, followed by KIET as the Second Prize winner receiving ₹3100, and Seth Anandram Jaipuria School winning the Third Prize with a cash award of ₹2100.
The competition was coordinated by Dr. Kratika Singh, Dr. Himanshu Sharma, Dr. Divya Pant, and Dr. Abhishek Kumar Srivastava, whose efforts ensured the smooth execution of the event. The Nukkad Natak Competition at Mercato 2025 reaffirmed Jaipuria Ghaziabad’s commitment to holistic education by encouraging cultural expression, social awareness, and student engagement beyond the classroom.
