Jaipuria Insititute of Management Vasundhara, Ghaziabad had organized an industrial tour cum sightseeing visit for MBA students of the 3rd semester to Haridwar from 23rd November to 24th November 2014. The tour included visit to Ginni filaments and BHEL at Haridwar along with picnic to Rishikesh.
The visit started in the early hours of a Sunday, 23rd November by the college bus. After halting for lunch on midway we first proceeded to Rishkesh for sightseeing. Students enjoyed the natural beauty and visited various places like the world famous ‘Lakshman Joola’ along with local temples in the town. We returned to Haridwar on the same day and visited Ginni filaments next day on 24th November. The group was taken to the training hall first and foremost as soon as reaching the plant. There they were shown a presentation on the plant and the company i.e. Ginni filaments. Ginni filaments Hardwar plant produces face vibes for various brands like Johnson and Johnson and five star hotels. After presentation, the students were divided into 4 groups and toured various sections of the plant along with a senior executive. The sections covered were production, packaging, waste discharge and water purification. All machinery and process was explained in detail. Students were amazed to see hygiene standards at the plant. The plant also has a policy of zero discharge of solid and liquid waste.
The plant is fully automated. Students were amazed at the speed at which the process occurred and how the automated systems could work according to the requirements. The manufacturing process adopted by them is batch process. The visit concluded by the afternoon. After the company tour, students were again assembled for answering queries including marketing and manufacturing and served snacks. Later on there was a photo opportunity with the employees. The industrial visit to Ginni filaments was an enriching experience for students in getting live exposure of manufacturing which can help them in their internships and further career enhancements.
Our next visit was to BHEL facility in Haridwar itself. After formalities, we were escorted by Mr. Rajpal, an HR executive to various parts of the BHEL. BHEL Haridwar manufactures power plant turbines and naval guns. We were taken to turbines section. The entire section starting from fabrication to assembling and finally the testing of turbines was shown. The students were apprised about the metallurgy, technology and the markets of its products. The facility makes turbines from 200 MW to 840 MW. He also shed light on the history of BHEL. Students were amazed to see massive industrial tools like lathe machine, overhead cranes, testing tunnel and welding equipment. Finally with the question and answer session, the visit was wound up.
Overall the students enjoyed this edutainment trip.
