IIC Organizes SCAMPER Innovathon Workshop to Foster Creative Thinking and Innovation

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Ghaziabad organized a highly engaging and hands-on SCAMPER Innovathon Workshop on 15th October 2025 in Classroom FF102. The four-hour session, coordinated by Dr. Smita Agarwal, Associate Professor and IIC Member, was conducted as part of Innovation Day celebrations to strengthen students’ innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities.

The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the SCAMPER technique—a structured framework for creative ideation that involves Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, and Rearrange. The session demonstrated how this versatile tool can be applied across industries to reimagine existing products and processes.

The event began with an insightful introduction to the SCAMPER methodology, followed by real-world examples illustrating its relevance. Students were divided into groups and encouraged to brainstorm innovative solutions by applying SCAMPER to different sectors. The activity encouraged a balance between structured creativity and open-ended thinking, resulting in diverse and practical ideas.

Participants showcased impressive innovations:

  • In healthcare, teams proposed integrating ride-hailing models like Ola or Uber with ambulance services and designing smart medicine bottles that dispense precise dosages.
  • In retail, students reimagined a one-stop shop by merging a pharmacy with a general store.
  • In automotive, ideas included integrating solar panels into electric vehicles for sustainable charging.
  • In the food industry, participants envisioned enhancing coffee with the nutritional value of fruit smoothies.

Through these exercises, students learned to analyze real-world challenges from new perspectives and apply design thinking principles effectively.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Application of the SCAMPER technique for creative product innovation
  • Enhanced collaborative problem-solving and critical thinking skills
