As part of Mercato 2025, the annual inter-institute fest of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Ghaziabad, the IT Club in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) successfully organized a Hackathon on 20 December 2025. The full-day event was conducted at the Second Floor Computer Lab and Room No. 202 and brought together students from diverse academic backgrounds to address a pressing environmental challenge through technology and innovation.
The primary objective of the hackathon was to encourage innovation and creative problem-solving by offering participants a collaborative platform to develop practical solutions within a defined time frame. The event aimed to enhance technical and analytical skills, promote teamwork, and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications. It also sought to foster an entrepreneurial mindset and expose students to emerging technologies while addressing socially relevant issues.
The hackathon focused on the critical problem of air pollution and its impact on urban communities. The problem statement, shared in advance, challenged teams to design and develop a prototype capable of monitoring air quality, analysing pollution trends, and suggesting actionable measures to reduce pollution using technology-driven approaches. Participants were free to use programming languages, no-code platforms, and publicly available datasets to create innovative and impactful solutions.
A total of 13 teams, comprising 42 participants, took part in the competition. Teams represented institutes from Delhi NCR and Jaipur, including students from B.Tech and BCA programs, making the event diverse and competitive. Five teams participated from JIM IIC collaborative institutions and Seth R. Jaipuria School, adding to the collaborative spirit of the event.
The evaluation process followed a structured and transparent judging rubric focusing on innovation and creativity, technical implementation, business relevance and societal impact, presentation quality, communication skills, and team coordination. The hackathon was judged by industry experts Mr. Himanshu Jain from Adidas and Mr. Karan Mirchandani from Infogain, who provided valuable insights, professional feedback, and real-world perspectives to the participants.
The winning team, Oceanseekers, received a cash prize for their innovative and impactful solution. The team comprised Anukriti Jain from ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad, and Dhruv Mittal from Manipal University Jaipur. Their solution stood out for its technical clarity, relevance, and potential for real-world application.
From a learning perspective, participants gained hands-on exposure to emerging technologies such as data analytics, IoT concepts, AI models, and visualization tools. Students strengthened their problem-solving abilities, improved teamwork and collaboration, and enhanced communication skills by presenting their solutions to industry professionals and responding to expert feedback.
The event was coordinated by Prof. Ajay Tripathi and Dr. Smita Agarwal, with Dr. Smita Agarwal, Associate Professor at JIM, serving as the Event Coordinator. The successful execution was supported by a dedicated team of 12 student coordinators, whose efforts ensured smooth planning and execution. The hackathon at Mercato 2025 reaffirmed Jaipuria Ghaziabad’s commitment to innovation, experiential learning, and industry-academia collaboration.
