Jaipuria Institute of Management, Ghaziabad, in collaboration with STEP, successfully organised an engaging online session titled Meme Club: Context, Creativity and Communication – Challenge the Artist in You on 21 July 2026.
The two-hour workshop brought together 140 MBA students for an innovative learning experience that explored how memes can go beyond entertainment and become effective tools for communicating business and management concepts.
The session was coordinated by Dr. Namita Nigam, Dr. Smita Agarwal, and Dr. Devi Archana Mohanty and was conducted in an interactive online format.
Exploring Memes as a Management Learning Tool
Memes have become an important part of digital communication, particularly among younger audiences. The workshop encouraged MBA students to look beyond their conventional use as humorous online content and understand how visual communication can simplify complex ideas.
During the session, students explored the use of memes as pedagogical tools for presenting management concepts through context, creativity, and visual storytelling.
The activity demonstrated how a combination of concise messaging, relevant visuals, and contextual understanding can communicate an idea quickly and effectively. This approach gave students an opportunity to connect management education with contemporary digital communication practices.
Connecting Management Concepts with Creativity
A major objective of the Meme Club workshop was to encourage students to apply creative thinking to real-world business situations.
Participants explored themes related to contemporary business issues, workplace scenarios, leadership challenges, and current events. They were encouraged to transform these situations into meaningful memes that demonstrated both their understanding of management principles and their ability to communicate those principles creatively.
Rather than approaching management concepts only through conventional classroom discussions, students used visual storytelling and humour to interpret situations and communicate their perspectives.
The exercises encouraged participants to think about the context behind a message, identify its central idea, and determine how that idea could be communicated effectively to an audience.
Encouraging Innovative Thinking Among MBA Students
Creativity is increasingly relevant across business functions including marketing, branding, leadership, entrepreneurship, and corporate communication.
The Meme Club session created an environment where students could experiment with ideas and communicate them in unconventional ways. By challenging students to think beyond standard presentation formats, the workshop encouraged innovative thinking and greater confidence in creative expression.
Participants were also encouraged to approach the exercises with an entrepreneurial mindset. They examined situations, identified key messages, and developed creative ways to communicate those messages with clarity and relevance.
This process helped students understand that effective business communication is not always about presenting more information. It is often about identifying the most important message and presenting it in a way that connects with the intended audience.
Building Visual Communication Skills
The workshop placed significant emphasis on visual communication and digital content creation.
In a digital-first business environment, professionals regularly communicate through presentations, social media, dashboards, advertisements, videos, and other visual formats. Understanding how audiences interpret visual information is therefore becoming increasingly relevant for management professionals.
Through meme creation, students practised combining visuals and concise text to communicate an idea. They learned how context influences interpretation and how creative content can make a message more memorable.
These exercises provided students with practical exposure to communication techniques that can be relevant in areas such as digital marketing, branding, internal communication, social media strategy, and entrepreneurship.
Strengthening Critical Thinking Through Context
Creating an effective meme requires more than selecting an image and adding text. It requires an understanding of the situation, audience, message, and context.
The workshop encouraged students to analyse business and workplace situations before converting them into visual content. Participants had to identify the central issue, interpret its relevance, and determine how it could be represented creatively.
This process strengthened critical thinking while encouraging students to examine management situations from different perspectives.
By connecting theoretical concepts with practical scenarios, the session made management learning more interactive and relatable.
Key Learning Outcomes
The workshop contributed to several important areas of student development. Participants enhanced their creativity and innovative thinking while learning to communicate ideas through concise visual content.
Students also strengthened their critical thinking skills by analysing situations and identifying the most relevant message before developing their creative output.
Another important outcome was increased exposure to digital content creation. Students explored how contemporary communication formats can be used professionally when supported by the right context, purpose, and messaging.
The activity also encouraged confidence in presenting ideas creatively and demonstrated how emerging communication trends can be connected with management education.
Visual Communication in Business and Leadership
The session concluded with an interactive discussion on the growing role of visual communication in business, branding, and leadership.
Students explored how organisations increasingly rely on visual formats to communicate with customers, employees, stakeholders, and digital audiences. The discussion highlighted the importance of understanding both the message and the medium when developing communication strategies.
For future managers, this ability can be valuable across multiple professional situations, from presenting business ideas and building brands to communicating with teams and engaging customers online.
The discussion reinforced the idea that creativity and communication are not isolated skills. They are closely connected with leadership, problem-solving, audience understanding, and business decision-making.
An Interactive Learning Experience for MBA Students
The Meme Club workshop was highly appreciated by participating students for combining learning, creativity, and practical application in an engaging format.
Participants received online certificates of participation, while STEP shared additional learning resources to encourage students to continue exploring creative communication techniques beyond the workshop.
With participation from 140 MBA students, the session reflected the value of activity-based learning in creating meaningful academic experiences.
