The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Ghaziabad organized “SCAMPER Unlocked: Think It, Flip It and Build It” on Saturday, 10 October 2026, at the JIM FDP Room.
The two-hour workshop and competition brought together 40 MBA students across 10 teams, supported by 6 student volunteers and 3 faculty members, to explore creative problem-solving, product innovation and entrepreneurial thinking through the SCAMPER technique.
The activity challenged participants to rethink existing products, identify opportunities for improvement and communicate innovative solutions through AI-assisted digital social media posters.
By combining structured ideation, teamwork, digital creativity and product pitching, the workshop provided students with practical exposure to innovation and entrepreneurship.
Introducing SCAMPER as a Creative Problem-Solving Technique
The workshop commenced with a 30-minute interactive introduction to the SCAMPER technique, a structured approach to generating innovative ideas by examining existing products from different perspectives.
Students were introduced to the seven components of SCAMPER:
- S – Substitute: Replace an existing element with an alternative.
- C – Combine: Bring together different features, products or ideas.
- A – Adapt: Modify an existing concept to suit a different need.
- M – Modify: Change or improve the features of an existing product.
- P – Put to Another Use: Explore alternative applications for a product.
- E – Eliminate: Remove unnecessary elements or processes.
- R – Reverse/Rearrange: Reorganize or reverse existing features to explore new possibilities.
Through examples of real-world products, students explored how these techniques can be applied to generate practical innovations.
The introductory session established a foundation for the competition, encouraging students to approach familiar products with fresh perspectives and identify opportunities for redesign.
From Existing Products to Innovative Business Ideas
Following the introduction, students were divided into 10 teams of four members each.
Each team selected an existing product or product concept and applied the SCAMPER framework to develop an innovative solution.
The activity encouraged participants to examine how existing products could be improved, adapted or redesigned to address consumer needs and emerging market opportunities.
Students worked collaboratively to evaluate ideas, develop product concepts and prepare presentations communicating their proposed innovations.
The exercise demonstrated how structured creativity can contribute to entrepreneurial ideation and product development.
Integrating AI Tools with Product Innovation
A distinctive feature of the SCAMPER Unlocked workshop was the integration of AI-assisted digital design into the innovation process.
Each team was required to create a digital social media poster using Canva AI or another AI tool of its choice.
The posters served as a visual communication medium through which students could present their product concepts, highlight important features and explain their ideas to the audience.
This activity combined creative thinking, digital storytelling and product communication, enabling students to explore how AI tools can support the presentation of innovative business concepts.
The exercise also encouraged participants to consider the importance of visual communication when introducing products to potential customers and stakeholders.
