Nukkad Natak Competition at Mercato 2024 – A Stage for Creativity and Change

A Celebration of Drama and Social Change

On December 21, 2024, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indirapuram, hosted the much-awaited Mercato 2024, the institute's annual inter-institute event. This grand celebration brought together students, faculty, and staff to showcase their creativity, talent, and innovation through various events, including the Nukkad Natak Competition, Business Plan Presentations, Baby Show, Poster Making, Fashion Show, Battle of Bands, and a Celebrity Performance.

The Nukkad Natak Competition stood out as a powerful medium of storytelling and social commentary. It was not just a showcase of talent but also a celebration of creativity and the ability to inspire change through theater. Participants used the stage to express themselves, challenge perspectives, and address pressing societal issues, making the event both thought-provoking and engaging.

Objective of the Nukkad Natak Competition

The primary goal of the competition was to provide a platform for budding dramatists to demonstrate their storytelling prowess and theatrical skills. Participants presented a range of narratives, each crafted to explore unique perspectives and provoke meaningful discussions. The event underscored the importance of creativity, ingenuity, and teamwork, encouraging students to engage deeply with societal themes.

Themes Explored

The plays were centered around socially relevant and impactful themes, including:

  • Social Issues: Gender inequality, women empowerment, corruption, environmental issues, child labor, and discrimination
  • Entrepreneurship Development
  • Health and Sanitation: Healthcare, hygiene, and sanitation
  • Education and Literacy: Right to education, free education, and girls’ education
  • Mental Health: Awareness and stigma reduction
  • Other Topics: Family planning, fire safety, human trafficking, and LGBTQ issues

These themes provided participants with an opportunity to address real-world challenges, inspiring change and raising awareness through the power of performance.

After careful evaluation by the esteemed panel of judges, the following colleges were declared winners:

  • 1st Place: NSUT
  • 2nd Place: KIET
  • 3rd Place: DCAC
