Mercato: The Fiesta is Jaipuria Institute of Management’s annual inter-college management and cultural festival held at its campus in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. Mercato combines entrepreneurial competitions, creative events, cultural performances, and business showcases in a multi-day festival format that has become one of the defining elements of the Jaipuria MBA experience. The name Mercato – Italian for ‘market’ – reflects the festival’s roots in the spirit of enterprise, exchange, and performance.
Mercato is not a peripheral student event. It is a major institutional initiative that demonstrates Jaipuria’s commitment to holistic management education – the development of students who are not just analytically capable but entrepreneurially minded, culturally aware, and capable of organising and leading large-scale events under real-world constraints.
Mercato 2025 featured a range of events documented on Jaipuria’s official website. The festival included: Business Plan Competition, Startup Mela (showcasing student business ideas), Hackathon (Mercato 2025’s theme: technology-driven solutions for air pollution), Nukkad Natak (social storytelling and street theatre), Solo and Group Dance Competitions, Fashion Show, and Poster Making Competition.
Mercato has historically featured celebrity performers. At Mercato 2024, the showstopper was Mohd. Danish – a nationally recognised artist. At Mercato 2023, Starboy LOC performed as the star performer. These celebrity appearances reflect the event’s scale and the level of engagement it commands within the NCR student community.
The Dramatics and Cultural Club at Jaipuria – which organises music, dance, vocals, anchoring, role plays, dramatics, and fashion events throughout the year – reaches its peak at Mercato. The club also organises AAGHAAZ (the freshers’ party) and Farewell throughout the academic year.
Organising a multi-day, multi-event, multi-hundred-person festival requires project management, budgeting, stakeholder coordination, marketing, logistics, and crisis management. Students who lead Mercato’s organisation are effectively running a live management practicum – applying MBA concepts in a real, visible, high-stakes context. Students who have led event committees at Mercato enter the job market with demonstrable project leadership experience.
The Startup Mela, held within Mercato, is a dedicated entrepreneurship showcase. At Mercato 2025, the Startup Mela brought student business ideas to life – showcasing student-led ventures, product prototypes, and business concepts in a market format. This aligns with Jaipuria’s Design Thinking and Innovation Club, which organises year-round events around community problem-solving and design thinking. For students with entrepreneurial ambitions, Mercato’s Startup Mela provides a real platform with audience, evaluation, and visibility.
